KOLONI DEVELOPMENT GROUP (Pty) Ltd formerly known as KOLONI ENERGY SOLUTIONS is a Level 1 BEE and 100% Black Owned Emerging Micro Enterprise (EME) established by group of specialists in business, communication, events, marketing, project management and research. The company was registered in 2013 as a response to a call to provide solutions to the various business sectors, namely: construction, energy, transport, services and government.

Our business model is based on a One Stop Shop principle which is aimed at offering a full basket of services to all our clients. The company is based in the Eastern Cape Province with its arms across South Africa.

George Meko

George is a professional Communications and Development specialist, a seasoned administrator, and an entrepreneur. He works in the field of public participation, research, strategy, policy formulation and events management.  For the past 20 years George has accumulated expanse experience in community public participation as well as training and development of all sectors of the society. George started his public relations career in 1995 as a PR Assistant under Ms Carrol Bouah at NuWorld PR & Communications. 

As part of his local government experience, in 2005 George joined the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality as Operations Officer in Office of the Speaker, where amongst others he was responsible for ensuring effective administration for all public participation and stakeholder programmes, and thereafter appointed as Skills Training and Institutional Cluster Manager for the Motherwell Urban Renewal Programme (MURP) where he was chiefly responsible for identifying and addressing all social needs and to fast-track service delivery in the areas of skills training, job creation and social services. 

 

In 2008 George worked for a year as a Senior Consultant Stakeholder Engagement and Management at Mazizi Msutu & Associates where he facilitated a number of public participation projects as well as stakeholder meetings from Ward, Councillors, the 2010 stadium and transportation plan, as well as establishment of multi-stakeholder forums for mining communities

In 2009 to 2015, George was re-appointed by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality as Deputy Director Special Programmes in Revenue Management and Customer Care within the Budget & Treasury Directorate where he was mainly responsible for drafting and coordinating the Revenue Enhancement Strategy, establishment of a Multidisciplinary task team as well as the development facilitation of approval of relevant policies and by-laws.

Before exiting the public sector in 2015, George was seconded to manage the Customer Care division of the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality between 2012 and 2013, where he spent 18 months responsible for over 120 employees and 13 Customer Care Centres dealing with a number of community outreach programmes and public participation processes, not to mention addressing and resolving dozens of staff related grievances. 

In his career, George has facilitated over 150 workshops and strategic planning sessions across all sectors of the society.

 

George is a former Trustee of Metrowind Community Trust which was established to oversee the community shareholding in the Van Stadens Wind Farm project. George’s strong social facilitation skills were displayed when he was appointed as a Social Consultant during the construction of the Metrowind Van Stadens Windfarm during 2012 and 2013 wherein the project reached its Commercial Operation Date (COD) without any community violence or labour unrests. 

In 2018 to 2020 he has been appointed by Enel Green as a Consultant responsible for designing and implementation of a Community Health Promotion Program for Gibson Bay Wind Farm in the Gamtoos River Valley area.  In the same year he was awarded a contract with Buzz Projects and served as Assistant Project Manager for Libhongolethu Integrated Public Transport System in Nelson Mandela Bay in 2018 to 2021. In March 2019 he was appointed by Nojoli Wind Farm to conduct school needs assessment.

George is passionate about communities and engaging with the public, he brings in a wealth of communications experience and a solid business network to Koloni Development Group. George is a founder of Ikhala Community Radio Station based in Blue Crane Route Municipality.

 

George has a combined 20 years of public participation experience which has earned him respect as a specialist in Public Participation and Stakeholder Engagement, Training and Facilitation as well as Community Research.
